Cloned fields
The Natural HR form builder allows you to create different types of forms for many different purposes. The form will typically comprise a series of fields that can be used to collect data about, or from your employees.
The Form builder has a special feature that allows one or more fields to be duplicated, or cloned, as many times as required, as the form is being completed. This means that the initial form can be much smaller i.e. less fields to start with and avoids fields that are not required.
The person completing the form will see one or more fields in a section with a 'Duplicate fields' button after the last field. Clicking on this button will create a new set of these fields which they can then complete. In this example, the form has a series of fields to complete for employee objectives which can be duplicated by the employee as many times as required for each objective.
To duplicate fields in a form go to
Administration -> Company/HR -> Form builder
Clicking on the 'Add' button, complete the mandatory fields and click 'Submit'.
Add fields as required to your form. As a minimum, complete:
- Field display label - this will be copied to the Database field name (to view, click on the Show advanced options switch)
- Mandatory field - choose 'Yes' or 'No' If you choose 'Yes', the user will not be able to 'Submit' the form without completing this field
- Field type - select from the options available to define the type of field
- Field access - choose who can view and/or update the field
To create a cloned field, repeat as above but for 'Field type', select 'Clone – start', and in the 'Values' field enter the name which will appear as a heading at the beginning of this clone section.
Now, add the field or fields that you wish to duplicate or clone in the form. You can follow the same steps to creating a field as above, however, the 'Clone field' will now need to be set to 'Yes'. Click on 'Show advanced options' to access the 'Clone field'.
The last field of your cloned section, the 'Clone – end' will need to be created following the same field creation method. The 'Clone field' would be set to 'No' as below
Click 'Finish building form'. This will be what you should expect to see when you are in the form builder creating a cloned section.
To see how to use these clone fields you'll first need to add a submission. For a Performance review form, go to
Performance -> Review forms
Select the Actions button followed by 'Add' of the form you wish to look at:
Scroll to where the clone field(s) is/are. Here you will see the fields that will be cloned when you click on the 'Duplicate fields' button
The Duplicate Fields button will allow you to duplicate the fields that have been created in the form builder
Please note: The clone function can only be used once per form.
