Setting up Time Off In Lieu (TOIL)
Natural HR allows employees who work more than their prescribed hours each week, to accrue this time as Time Off In Lieu, or TOIL, which they are then able to book as time off.
To enable and set up TOIL go to
Administration -> Company -> Settings -> Time off settings (global)
In the Accrual section there are three TOIL options to choose:
Time off in lieu -
Yes - never expires - if you choose this option then the TOIL will roll over into the following year
Yes - expires within holiday year - if you choose this option then you will need to deal with TOIL as part of your annual Carryover process.
Allow employees to request time off in lieu allowance - If you choose 'Yes', employees will be able to request hours to be banked against TOIL, using the 'Time off in lieu allowance' button in the Self Service Time off module, which they will then be able to book as time off.
Please Note: This setting also affects Manager's abilities to enter TOIL allowances for their employees, if this is set to No neither the employee or manager will be able to request TOIL allowances, if it is set to Yes they both can.
If the 'Allow employees to request time off in lieu allowance' option is set to 'No', the 'Time off in lieu allowance' button will not appear in the Self Service Time off module, regardless of whether or not an employee has a TOIL balance.
Timesheets overtime auto accrue time off in lieu - If you are using the Natural HR Timesheets module and you choose 'Yes', any time which is worked by an employee which is over and above their contracted working hours is returned to the employee as TOIL.
Please Note: In order to book time off you must have a Time Off In Lieu time off type on your system.
To create one simply add a new time off type, there's a guide on doing so here. Ensure that the new time off type's 'Deducting Type' field is set to No. While creating the time off type created you can set the Time Off In Lieu field to Yes, this will then designate this time off type as the one that receives allowance when TOIL is added.
