Linking Unauthorised Absences - Bradford Factor
Natural HR calculates and displays an employee's Bradford factor based on their unauthorised absences, click here to read more about what Bradford factor is and how it is displayed and calculated.
The Bradford Factor is calculated with the following formula:
B = S x S x D where
B = Bradford Factor
S = Spells or number of occasions of unauthorised absence – in the formula this is squared (multiplied by itself)
D = Total number of days absent
In this example this employee has 3 unauthorised time off absences for sickness this Holiday Year.
Each individual unauthorised absence will be shown as a Bradford factor instance, in this case there are 2 instances. The employee's Bradford Factor score is 28 which is calculated by:
S x S x D = Bradford Factor
3 x 3 x 11 = 99
When an Admin or HR access level user adds or edits an unauthorised time off type such as sickness, they have the option of linking two time off requests of the same time off type. This will have the effect of changing the number of instances used in the calculation of the Bradford factor. You can link time off requests that are within 8 weeks (past and future) from your chosen start and end date.
In the example above there are two unauthorised time off requests for sickness. Go to the 'Edit' action for one of the requests you want to link to. Click on the 'Link to' option and if there is a request available to link to you will see the following details
- Duration
- Time off type
- Start date
- End date
Select the link and then click on 'Submit', once you have done this, you can return to the employee's card view and you can see the employee's Bradford factor score has been recalculated to now show a score of 44.0
S x S x D = Bradford Factor
2 x 2 x 11 = 44
You also have the option link to an existing unauthorised time off request when an Admin or HR access level user adds some time off to an employee
This will have the same effect on recalculating the employee's Bradford factor score as when a request is linked via editing an unauthorised time off request
